Galatians 6:2 NIV
"Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ."
Posts will be spotty this week as I enjoy a little vacation.
Galatians chapter 6 begins with number of ways to care for those in the church and their spiritual needs. This particular verse reminds us that the church is important for one major reason - support. To carry each others' burdens teaches us to curb our selfish desires. If part of the body is burdened, it becomes sluggish.
I drove 13 hours yesterday - literally. My arm feels like it is falling off and my back, well, I could use a nice hot tub to soak in. My wife had the kids rub their daddy's back. They were carrying my burden. Simplistic as this illustration is, it gets to the point.
Carrying each others burdens means we need to mean it when we ask, "How are you doing today?" It means we look people in the eye when we address them to see how they react to such a question. It means we are ready to pray for the person because we genuinely care. It means that if we hear of a need and we have means to take care of it, we take care of it. The less burdened the church is, then the more able to the church becomes.
To fulfill the law of Christ means we worship God with everything we are and have and care for others as we care for ourselves. Caring for others and ourselves is an act and fulfillment of worship - the law of Christ.
How do you plan to worship today?
