Times Are A Changing

Matthew 24:35 NIV

"Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away."

I was in Lancaster last week with my family, and we visited the Amish House and Farm.  If you blink you will miss it because it sits beside Target in the middle of a lot of tourist attractions.  I highly recommend visiting here before going to see the Amish homes and farms in the area because you will a gain a deeper respect and understanding of the Amish peoples.

The one thing that you will find out is that the Amish population continually grows and this growth puts a strain on their way of life.  The farmlands are becoming less available as city and farms converge.  Some have moved to new areas and new states in hopes of creating new Amish communities but as their culture holds on to traditional ways of life, modern laws and governing leave them behind.

I say this because our verse says heaven and earth will pass away.  Everything we know from our youth has changed.  Everyone we have know is different or has passed on.  Life changes but one thing always remains the same - God's Word.  The Amish are adapting to the changes without compromising their faith.  They strongly hold on to the Bible and its teachings.

I miss several things about the seventies and eighties (yes, 1980s).  Those times hold fond memories.  They have also passed away.  I live in today and look to tomorrow because God's Word is unchanged.  Jesus is eternal.  Our generations changed but Jesus stays the same.

There is coming a time when the teachings of Jesus will come to completion and an entire generation will see it unfold as Matthew chapter 34 forewarns.  Could we be the generation that is watching it unfold?  False Messiahs? Wars and rumors of war? Famines and earthquakes?  Nations rising up against nations?  Christians facing all types of persecution including death?  Love growing cold due to the rise of wickedness?  Are people turning away from the faith and hating one another?  Keep an eye out for Jesus; time is not on our side but He is.
