Galatians 1:10 NIV
"Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ."
Liberation theology, mormonism, and Jehovah's witnesses are all forms of attempts to redefine God's Word to please people. People will twist God's Word to fit their personal agendas or to fit their misguided information.
Paul refused to preach anything other than God's message about salvation through faith. Paul says that those who preach a message that twists God's Word are still living under the curse of sin and to let them. Paul was clearly angered.
Misuse of the gospel to spread one's own agenda reminds me too much of our election cycles. Politicians will tell you anything for your vote to please you and to gain your support. We do not have room in the church for preachers who act more like politicians than ministers of God's Word.
The Gospel should draw people to God, and sometimes the message is uncomfortable because people are being asked to change. It is in these moments that a minister or Sunday school teacher or a friend may be tempted to compromise in order to please their listeners. Please, don't.
In those moments you are sharing Christ, you are serving Him and not your listeners. Do not bend to the pressure to preach a pleasing message. You can be humorous, emotional, and even boisterous but do not compromise the truth of God's gospel.
The lives of others are in your hands. That is a big responsibility yet it is also rewarding and life giving. Choose this day whom you will serve. Until next time, stay close to God.
