Fearfully and Wonderfully Made

Psalm 139:13-14 NIV

"For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.  I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well."

As my family discussed these verses this morning, I could not help but to let my mind wander in amazement.  God takes time to create each of us.  Our inmost being (our spirit and soul) were handcrafted by God.

God's design for the human body which houses our spirit and our soul forms a beautiful baby inside the womb of a mother.  The beautiful child has a beating heart at seven weeks.  A friend from Korea says that their birthday corresponds with the day of their conception.  They respect God's handiwork in the womb and not just when the baby takes a first breath outside it.  God knows who we are from the very beginning.  Do people understand that an abortion is the taking of a life known by God?

We are fearfully and wonderfully made.  That includes anyone and everyone.  God does not make mistakes.  Do people abuse the process for proper care of childbearing?  Unfortunately they do.  Every rape or incestuous relation tears at the act of fearfully and wonderfully made.  Every sexual relationship outside the covenant of marriage rips at the idea of fearfully and of wonderfully made.

Having a child is not a light hearted act.  It is the act of rearing a child known to God which should put fear in our hearts because we become responsible for introducing the child to God - his or her maker.

Abortion is not an answer because it fails to include an understanding about how wonderfully equipped every child is regardless of physical abilities.  My hope is to encourage you today as you look at your lifestyle.  Are you living up to God's handiwork?   Do you see how every sexual encounter requires serious reflection?  Can you accept the fearful and wonderful creation of every yet to be born child?

You are fearfully and wonderfully made.  I could not imagine this world without you.  Make the most of it.
