Ephesians 2:8-9 NIV
"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast."
The hardest thing for many people is to learn how to forgive. I held a bitter streak against a former employer for years before I realized that the only one bitter was me. It will distract you and keep you from pushing forward in life. Once I learned to forgive I was no longer hindered by my unforgiveness.
God is different than we are. We are unworthy of Him because of sin yet because of His grace (which abounds more than sin) we can find forgiveness through faith. Undeserving yet gifted to us by God. Unearned but freely given without strings to those who choose Christ as their Savior.
There isn't anything we can do to earn God's forgiveness so no one person can claim to be more deserving of it. There is however a desire within us that wants to do something to show our appreciation once we receive it. A completely free gift from God through Christ to us. All we have to do is accept.
Do everything you can for God but realize it is only because you love Him and not because you are trying to earn more favor or love. All of His love is available to you because His nature is built upon forgiveness to those who will accept it. Unmerited favor.
