Downcast - Psalm 42:11

Psalm 42:11 NIV

"Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God."

For those football fans whose teams lost, they may feel a little downcast today.  It is never a pleasant feeling.  Hope seems lost and no where to be found. People hang their heads in misery. Being downcast makes life feel meaningless.

King David in this verse does something about his feelings. He first shows that even leaders are people who can become disillusioned or disheartened by life's circumstances.  Second, David begins to give himself a peptalk. He encourages thoughts of hope where hope seemed missing.

Where is the best place to put one's hope?  In God.  Then David says the one thing that proves his encouragement was working.  David predicts a coming moment when he would praise or thank God for answering his prayer - "for I will yet praise Him".

God holds all the answers and gives us true hope. He provides salvation, and He is the foundation for living life. Put your hope in Him and prepare to praise Him for the answer.  Start living life.
