God Fearing Women

Proverbs 31:30 NIV

"Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised."

Charm school.  That's what they call a school for those seeking to refine their behaviors.   It is meant to be used to help a young child with hospitality and presentation of self.  Charm schools teach proper manners and etiquette.   Charm itself is not evil when used to help others feel comfortable.   Charm becomes a tool of selfishness when used to motivate others to fulfill one's personal desires or interests.

So why does this verse mention women?  There is so much more to women than the need to use flattery and charm to find fulfillment.   Using charm selfishly is deceptive and beneath a God-honoring woman.  Mix deception with beauty and the combination leads a woman down a path that will one day birth a loathing for oneself.  It is so addictive that the purveyor continues living a life full of lies and of consequences.   They never find peace or contentment.

The problem with both is the eventual disclosure of the lies and the passing of beauty.   A liar becomes less desirable and much less beautiful.  The fear of God in a woman, however,  births the true beauty God placed within her.  Such women deserve praise.  Such women are well spoken of.

Of course another song comes to mind as I write this - "Evil Woman" by ELO.  One line in particular says, "Hey woman,  you got the blues, cos you ain't got no one else to use ..."

So Ladies, which one are you - someone to be remembered or someone to forget?

Be a God fearing woman.   No man is worth being deceitful.  Besides, you are worth so much more.  If you have been deceitful,  you can find forgiveness and peace through Christ.   Begin fresh and be made whole.

One more thought.  You are a complete person!   A man will never complete you.  Be confident in who you are in Christ. If you are to marry or are married,  then remember that you and your husband are two complete people who form a whole life together.   Live it and love it.  May Jesus be the difference for you today.

Thanks Adrienne for your positive comments. I learned a lot from spending 14 months in our M.B.A. program with strong women (such as yourself) who knew where God was taking them.
