Let Them Kids Have Sex

Got your attention? Keep reading.

I was watching a local news station (11alive in Atlanta) this morning when a "commentary" bit came on.  I am still trying to be nice about this bit so bear with me.  The man wants parents to give up their parental responsibility to teach their teens how to live with principles.

Now the spot is supposed to be from viewers but seems to be filled with radio personalities from Atlanta.  Whoever this man was this morning said we should give up on fighting against the morning after pill - aka the plan B or abortion pill.  This pill is being marketed to kids as young as 15 and over-the-counter!

Now listen to this logic, the commentary said parents should let their fifteen year old daughters make the choice as to whether they want that pill or not.  Why?  They have Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram accounts.  That's right.  Parents need to back off because their kid can instant message someone.  I cannot make this stuff up.

For crying out loud!  I know this post doesn't seem cohesive up to this point but I am fuming as I type this.  A fifteen year old (girl or boy) is not mature enough to read the side effects in a pill package.Who is to stop them from purchasing it from someone much younger?

As a minister and a follower of Christ, I believe the Plan B pill is abortion.  As a minister, I believe any aborted baby is murder.  The Plan B pill gives young teens a guilt free option to having sexual relationships.  My greatest fear is that this becomes the alternative to using protection (which I am not advocating is an option).  Plan B cannot stop sexual diseases.

There is one, and only one, 100-percent, proof-positive, and tested way to keep from having a baby.  This same way has proven to be 100-percent effective is stopping every transmitted disease.  That way is abstaining from sex until married.  It is tried, true, and the best option other than putting some drug into your system that can cause side effects as well as emotional trauma.
Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. 19 Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. 20 Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates, 21 so that your days and the days of your children may be many in the land that the Lord swore to give your forefathers, as many as the days that the heavens are above the earth.
Deuteronomy 11:18-21 (NIV)

Parents need to stop being best friends and start being a parent.  It means teaching sound principles for life to your kids (yes, you have to talk to your kids and teens).  And as parents, we cannot wait to start telling the truth about sex.  Our kids need to know a godly answer.  There are plenty of books that can help teach sound sexual information from a Christ following perspective.  Do not let Facebook, Twitter, and Instgram parent for you!  And do not wait until you find the Plan B package amongst your child's things.

God knows every child before they are formed:
The word of the Lord came to me, saying, 5 "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations." Jeremiah 1:4-5 (NIV)
