The High Road - Proverbs 21:3

Proverbs 21:3 NIV

"To do what is right and just is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice."

Two words here to think about - right and just.

Righteousness is learning to do the right things at the right time with the right attitude. Doing right is of course an action on our part. We have to participate in good because it is not a passive action.

Justice is acting according to a standard or rules regulated by a higher power.  In the United States the rules are written as a Constitution and as laws.  For a Christian, the rules are written in a book called the Bible. We study these rules so that they become our standard.

Righteousness and justice are how we honor God.  If we do it correctly,  then we do not have to continually go before God pleading for His forgiveness as the Israelites did through sacrifice. This is why these two words are more acceptable - they honor God.

How will you honor God today?   What parts of your life can you commit to becoming more righteous? What parts of your life lack a proven standard?  Learn God's standard for life and see how much of a difference it makes.
