Psalm 63:3-4 NIV
"Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you. I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name I will lift up my hands."
Have you ever been on top of the Empire State Building? It provides a breathtaking view. I remember seeing the Twin Towers from there. I remember looking over Central Park. I also remember seeing the various bridges that provide access to the island and the mountains of buildings that mark the horizon.
Being up high and looking across the landscape (especially from on top of a mountain), one can't help but to wonder if life could be any better. Our psalmist thought so. To the psalmist, life could only provide so much. God's love provided even more. With all the great opportunities in life, none can compare to experiencing God's love.
For the psalmist, expressing verbally the impact of God's love becomes a passion. He cannot wait to tell the world how remarkable life is with God. The psalmist is King David and again he is caught up in the power of God's love when trouble surrounded him.
David reveals a lot abut worship in the last part of our verse today. David lifted his hands in praise. He was humble before God and even as king. Lifting one's hands is a sign of surrender, an abdication of power and of pride. It is admitting we cannot but God can. It is admitting we are not but God is.
Today as you go about your day wondering if life can get any better, think about God. Humble yourself and let Him make a difference in your life. Life is small compared to His love. Share the difference He makes with someone.
