Hebrews 11:1 NIV
"Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see."
Mountain climbers have a lot of faith. People who stand on the glass window in the Willis Tower have a lot of faith. Tightrope walkers have a lot of faith. Why? They have confidence in the equipment they use which has been tested and studied. They are assured that these things will not lead to their death or to harm because they have witnessed countless others succeed in their attempts.
Christians are to have faith. Faith is the conviction of truth. We have the task of sharing truth and propagating it. We can share the truth because we have confidence and assurance.
We have confidence which means we have a firm foundation upon which to stand. The truth we deliver has been tested over time and cannot be undone. We have the Bible, God's Word, which is foundational to the truth we hold.
We also have assurance. We have the testimony of millions. The truth has been tested and tried. We have thousands of years worth of evidence to support our faith in God.
The next time someone challenges your faith remember that faith has a firm foundation and has been tested for truth. Faith always holds up. Pray that God helps you grow in confidence.
