Finish the Race - Acts 20:24

Acts 20:24 NIV

"However, I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me—the task of testifying to the good news of God’s grace."

Paul was on his way to Jerusalem when he entered into this conversation.  Many of the faithful tried to urge him not to go since the Holy Spirit had shown Paul that imprisonment awaited him.  He gives this powerful statement to those gathered with him.

To Paul, life had meaning.  It was meant to please God.  Going to Jerusalem was Paul's task and no one would could detract him from it.  Paul understood the risk.  His life was not worth more than the plan of God. As we sat at the table discussing this point this morning, my son said heaven is a bigger reward.   He is right.

When we place our own comfort above God's will,  we are not trusting Him.  For Paul, trusting God was everything.  His life did not mean more than God.   So Paul pressed forward even though he received warning after warning.

Finishing the race was Paul's intention.  Life becomes a marathon when we accept Christ as their Savor.  Our life journey is a great opportunity to tell others about God's grace.

Whether you call it a race or however you decide to relate to it in some other fashion, your life is an endless chance to share Jesus and His love.  What opportunities will you have this week or even today to tell someone about Christ?
