Pilot Lights

Matthew 5:14 NIV

“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden."

My kids and I were discussing this verse this morning, and my son said you can't hide the love of Jesus.  There are moments in life when you know your children are beginning to understand and there are moments when their childlike faith surpasses your own.  This was one of those moments.

I lose sight of the faith I am supposed to be sharing from time to time.  I get mean.  I get discouraged.  I get sick and tired.  I get angry.  I get emotional.  I get frustrated.  In those times, I feel lonely and worthless.  Then a light begins to shine in my life through my family, through church friends, through life....

It is like a pilot light in a furnace.  When the pilot light is burning, you are able to get heat from the furnace.  When the light goes out, the heat goes with it.

Christ's light cannot be hidden.  When I am quiet enough and still enough I see it, and it warms me.  As it warms my heart, it begins to shine through me.  It cannot be hidden.  People will know when you are walking with God and when you are depending on yourself.

As I do good works, the light within me (God's love) brings glory to God.  People know when we seek self glorification and when we seek to glorify God.

Before you do anything else this morning, check your light and see if it is burning.  If not, let Christ light it up and warm your soul again.  People around you will thank you because they will know.  Enjoy your day.
