Psalm 84:10 NIV
"Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked."
Psalm 90:4 says thousand years is like a day to God. Imagine that for a moment. Better is one day in God's courts because a day is like a thousand...than a million days (1,000 x 1,000) elsewhere! Okay, maybe I am stretching it a bit but can you imagine how much better being in the presence of God is rather than being in your favorite beach setting or mountain getaway?
The psalmist says being a doorkeeper is worth being in the presence of God. That's like me saying I wish I could be Billy Graham's shoe shine boy. Being close to God, doing whatever it takes regardless of the position, is better than risking our salvation making a living or finding pleasure in places that displease God.
Where do you spend your time? What occupies your thoughts? What pleasures or activities engage your time that you may need to measure with God's desire for you? Read I Thessalonian 5:16-18 to see God's will for you.
Give one day a try. It will surprise you.
