Thick Skinned - Ephesians 6:12

Ephesians 6:12 NIV

"For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms."

I enjoy watching The Beverly Hillbillies. Jed is an honest and trusting man who keeps his word but don't cross him or his family. I wonder what the world would be like if there were a lot more Jeds?

As Christians, Paul reminds us to put on the whole armor of God because our fight is not against people but against the rulers of darkness - Satan and his minions.  Putting on the whole armor means there will be times we need to be a little more gentle with people because they are being influenced by those rulers, and we will need a thicker skin at times to get through those moments.  It also means we need God to avoid those influences in our own life.

Satan will try everything to get us to think that we can do whatever we want through his rulers and authorities (this isn't our governing bodies...).  Rulers try to influence our thoughts and life patterns, and they will use others to do so. These dark powers are part of a world that cannot see in the dark.

The world needs the light of Christ and that light resides in us. This is why we need to be aware of the works of the enemy and what realms the enemy works within. Take a look around you today.  Take time to notice the influences in your life and the lives of those around you. Then use Jed's example for dealing with others - being caring but also diligent.
