Life Is Beautiful

Images in this video may be very disturbing. Watch at your own risk.

Nikki Sixx is the bassist from Motley Crue. He spent years addicted to heroin, and the entire time he was addicted, he was writing in a diary about how he felt. Maybe he wrote just to get through to the next high, only he knows. His book came out last year and along with his newest album created from the stories of his heroin addiction.

Many of you may ask why a Christian blog would have the video and the song from someone who is not a Christian. Well, the song is pretty good, but I really want to deal with raw culture.

I had actually picked an old Motley Crue song to use but came across Nikki's story and was dumbfounded. Heroin is scary enough, but to die because you need a substance so badly that it causes pain.

You can't quit until you try
You can't live until you die

Nikki wrote that he literally had to die from a bad dose of heroin one night after a concert in England before he realized how beautiful life really is.

I think we often overlook the beauty of the Creator and His creation. We being the center point of that creation. Wasted lives miss that beauty, and unfortunately not everyone wakes up from death after a heroin overdose (or a wasted life overdose).

Look at what they sing:
I was waiting for my hearse
What came next was so much worse
It took a funeral to make me feel alive

I cannot imagine what drugs do to people. I do know what addiction does. It is a lonely place and hard to emerge from, and drugs make it worse because your body cries out for that desire.

But getting back to the lyrics, waiting to die can seem like an okay thing until your faced with death. Then you begin to wonder about your life and what that life means. One of the lines in the song is"Will you swear on your life, That no one will cry at my funeral?"

If you want to know if you made difference in the lives of others, come back to watch your funeral. If you are missed, it is because you made some type of difference. My uncle was very involved in a bikers ministry. When he passed away, the funeral procession was one and a half miles long! I have seen other processions where only two vehicles were involved with one of those being the hearse.

Funerals are not that you are missed, they show how you are missed. I have seen church's shut down and people did not even notice because the church was not making a difference. We cease to make a difference in life when we are not allowing God to be the difference in our lives.

The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life, To turn one away from the snares of death.Prov 14:27 (NKJV)

"Just open your eyes and see that life is beautiful." There is a lot of wisdom in this song but it misses what the writer of Proverbs captures. The snares of death are always on the minds of those whose lives do not show a fear of God. Fear being a knowledge of who He is and an awe of what He does.

So I ask today, how beautiful is life for you? Are there snares that are trapping you and stealing that beauty? The Proverbs says that the fear of the Lord is a "fountain of life." Fearing God simply opens up your essence. You were born with purpose. Don't waste your life looking for false hopes. Let God open your life up to its beauty.
