Look folks, things may be bad, but they are not worse! Cheer up. Joy should come new every morning!
Today, I want to give you a few things to think about if you are trying to find a job in this economic stress.
First, Do Research
Look into the job field you want to enter. Don't lock yourself just into one job. Look into all the related fields. Ask yourself if you can fill a position that better suits your skills.
Also, look at where your market is going. Don't try to fill a position that is dying or that everyone else wants. Look for markets that are growing. You can go here to find information about differing jobs: Labor Statistics
Second, Get New Job Skills
If you do not know how to use a computer, take a computer class at a local school. If you need an accounting class or a refresher, take an online class.
Did you know you can get extra education through the USDA?
Third, Get More Than One Job
By this I mean, get a couple of part-time jobs or add a part-time job to your current situation if you need extra cash. Don't quit because you are not making enough money.
You could also look into doing some side jobs (by this I do not mean stealing jobs from your employer). Find your own customers and do some extra work for them.
Fourth, Social Networking Rules
MySpace, Twitter, Facebook, and more are all great ways to get known, but how about the connections that you have in your current industry? What former coworkers do you know who have moved into other positions who may be able to get you a position? Don't use people, but don't forget to ask for help either.
Fifth, Get Real
Some job positions are slow movers. With an economy slowing, you can expect those positions to slow even more. When I was in the military, there was a huge wait in order to move up in rank in my company. Then. numerous people retired, and positions were open and I was able to move into an NCO position.
Be patient. Pray. Be diligent. Your time will come.
