Come Into the Light

1 John 1:7 NIV

"But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin."

Poltergeist came to mind this morning.  I haven't seen that movie in 20 years but the images of the devil preacher and the light that the short medium tells little Carol Anne to stay away from....I digress but will say do not listen to short little mediums.

True light comes from God.  Light represents living right - obeying God's commands and following in the footsteps of Jesus.  Jesus said once that loving God with all you heart, mind, and soul and loving others as yourself sums up all God's commands.  Following Jesus is simply allowing Him to be Lord and Savior of your life.

Living in the light is living where Jesus is.  You may be surprised by where He is.  He is in those who need food and drink.  He is in those who are homeless.  He is in those who are sick or who are in prison and need a visit.

Fellowship is developed out of caring for others.  You cannot have real fellowship without compassion.  You cannot have real compassion without the blood of Jesus coursing through your veins.  His blood represents forgiveness and the power to overcome sin.

So why does this matter?  Fellowship emerges from a heart that is no longer clouded by the emptiness created by sin.  God fills the void created by sin.  Instead of bowing to the selfish need to fill the void, we can now operate in a higher plane of existence.   We can be in real fellowship with God and others.

There are enough people languishing in their personal greeds.  Let Jesus show you what true light is all about.  Come into the light...
