1 John 3:16 NIV
"This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters."
It's funny how biblical verses can bring to memory certain songs but this morning "I want to know what love is and I want you to show me" by Foreigner popped into my head. Well this verse answers it. Love is being willing to sacrifice yourself for others.
There is purpose in how we do this and it is usually not out if selfishness. Unless I have the power to come back to life, and I do not, laying down my life cannot serve me. Jesus was selfless because He needed us to see how much He loves us. There is not any sin in true love.
John encourages us to love the same way - selflessly with no other agenda than to see people give their lives to Christ. How have you shown love this morning? How will you show love throughout this week?
Lay down your life, and lay down your agendas. Dare to open your life to love and let yourself be vulnerable to love. Jesus has something for you today. Receive it and share it.
So now you can answer what love is and show it in the proper manner.
