Georgia Candidates and More Candidates and More...

I have had a few great opportunities to get to meet the new candidates of my district for the U.S. Congress - my representative is retiring.  I can already tell you for whom I am not voting.  I am not going to name names.

One candidate comes off as very angry in every speech he gives - anger is a sign of emotional distress and lack of control.  Another candidate turned his back to me last night in conversation as if I did not matter (I do have at least one vote and more when my family asks).  Another candidate did engage me in a quick conversation about the FairTax - at least he knows his topic, has great wife, and fantastic assistant.  Another candidate actually engages me in conversation each time I try to talk to him - he's winning my vote.  Another candidate has a great issues driven message that I really like - but I have yet to get a chance to talk to him.  Still one more seems to be a nice guy but hard to engage in conversation - he looked tired.  Another wasn't there but seems nice enough.  There are a lot of candidates for this race....

I intentionally ask engaging questions and play a little dumb with some candidates just to see how they will respond.  Some are good conversationalists and some just seem to be glad to be moving on.  I have a hard time voting for people that are policy driven because they care more about policy than people.

There are four gentlemen I am seriously considering now from that race, but I am not ready to say who yet until I engage them one more time (and since I am out campaigning for Karen Handel, I am sure to run across them soon).

I would like to say that I was really impressed with the teams from three of the candidates - they were helpful, considerate and very friendly.   You can tell a lot about a person by noticing the type of people with whom he or she surround themselves.  Regardless, I am voting for a person not just the team.

I also met Jeff May for the first time (he is running for the PSC - do you know what that is?  Go here and find out more).  He is a down to earth guy who knows the issues for his candidacy and is ready to get to work on them.  I also met John Douglas, running for the same position (he let me put Mrs. Handel's material on the table beside his because candidates for Governor were not invited to this particular event).  He's a likable man also.  This will be a tough decision (and they are not the only one's running).

I have already announced my support for the Georgia House seat - I still haven't got a ride in the other guys truck so my decision stands (jk).

So the candidacy flurry continues.  I really like being engaged in this process.  My fear is that too many Christians have set their standards so high that only God could fulfill them and those standards keep them from being engaged in politics.  They wonder why Christians seem to be losing their voice.  Maybe we have because we stopped being involved.   If God is involved, then why shouldn't we be also?

Get out and help a candidate win - then you can have the right to complain!
