Comatose

This is one of my favorite songs right now. It is by Skillet, and it hits home:
Comatose
I'll never wake up without an overdose of You

Sometimes I wonder how much of life I am sleeping through. I wonder how many times I have missed an opportunity to be the feet of God in this world where He wants so desperately to reach the hurting, the dying, the missing, the lonely., the oppressed, the sick, the homeless, the hungry, the naked....

So many people ask how a loving God can let so many suffer, but He asks how can we. God has empowered the church to do one big thing - Go!

I am not frustrated as some are who are dropping the name Christian because they are disgusted in all who call themselves Christians. I am not frustrated like those who have stopped meeting in buildings and meet in cell groups.

I think my frustration is embedded in both of these, not because anyone is more right about their faith than others but because I want to be so infused with God that people will begin to see how they, like me, may be walking comatose through life and need to wake up.

Skillet's song is a wake up call to all of us. We need to have an overdose of God. We need to return to worship as a way of life not as a day in life.

“His purpose was for the nations to seek after God and perhaps feel their way toward him and find him—though he is not far from any one of us. For in him we live and move and exist. As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring.’ Acts 17:27-28 (NLT)

God never wanted to be a mystery to us. He has tried in so many simple ways to make Himself known to each of us. The greatest tragedy comes not just from someone dying without getting that chance to know Him but dying without getting that chance because someone who knows Him was comatose.

I don't want to be comatose anymore. I want so much more. I truly do hunger and thirst for the Word of God and His presence. I don't want to wake up without waking up to Him. Most relationships in life are screwed up just because we wake up "on the wrong side of the bed" - we wake up on the side without Him. We don't wake up too Him.

The awesome thing about God is that He is doing everything He can to shake us awake. He has poured Himself out in life, died for us, rose from the dead for us, went to prepare a place for us, and established a desire for Him within each of us.

The verse says He wants us to feel around for Him because when we seek Him out we find Him. We find Him in our heart's cry, in our suffering, in our joy, in our pain, in our desperation, in our loneliness, and in our hunger. He also wants to be found through us. He wants to awaken us to all He has created us to do here on earth - to a purpose that is far greater than any we could ever imagine.

Don't be comatose anymore. Seek him and look to what He has for you. Start reading the gospel according to John and everyday ask Him to reveal Himself to you. Wake up to Him!
