Are Your Committed To Being A Christian?

There is a lot of buzz about lack of commitment. Hollywood types who can't commit to marriage or to their children. Politicians who can't commit to a stance. Ministers who can't commit to truth.

It totally overshadows the things people do commit to. Friends, family, faith.

When I ask whether you are committed to a life of Christianity, I want to know how much of your life have you devoted to God? 10%, 45% 98.99%?

What would happen if you knew God only committed as much devotion to you as you give to Him? Nothing, because He would not be God then. You see, God gave 100% and refuses to give less. Yet when we do not give our whole lives in devotion of God, we miss out on His blessing. Then we blame God because we "gave it a try" and God wasn't there.

However, I am not here to place blame. I want to engage you in why commitment gives more then we realize. Part of understanding God's plan for life is to understand God. How can commitment help someone understand God more?

Commitment is a cycle in Christian life. It involves praying, knowing, and doing.

Prayer should focus our attention on God. It is what reminds us that God is sufficient and answers us.

Knowing comes from prayer and reading the Word of God. The focus of prayer opens our hearts to hear God's will for our life and how we should act in life.

Doing puts to practice what we know to be true. Prayer and knowing are useless until we do.

I think the Psalmist says it best:

Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful; 2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord, (reading God's Word - knowing) And in His law he meditates day and night. (praying) 3 He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper. (God enhances what we do)

Psalms 1:1-3 (NKJV)

God enhances what we do when we become committed. So, check your commitment. Pray about it. Know, and then do.
