Colossians 3:23-24 NIV
"Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving."
Don't you just hate work sometimes? Too many interruptions, too much pressure, rude customers, an oppressive boss, the person that always turns the conversation to be about them when you are trying to share something (or is that one just me)....
Then you read this from Paul, "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart". Even when our heart is not into it, we should work at it passionately. There are two reasons for this:
1 - Everything we do should glorify Christ. What we do we either will attract people to Christ or repel them. Do you want to stand before Jesus and admit your actions kept them from Him?
2- Everything we do is not always for our own personal benefit. We have an eternal inheritance waiting for us.
Admittedly, Paul was addressing slaves. Regardless, of whom he addressed, we can take these two life lessons and apply them. If work is that bad, then we secure a new job and kindly tender our resignation.
Notice I said secure a new job first, and this should be a graceful departure! Those stupid videos of people resigning and giving their two cents through song are not worth it. Do not lose your self-respect or your dignity with those or any type of "got that last word" departures. Rise above it.
Jesus will have the last word, and if someone does not treat their employees fairly, then God has it covered. Their punishment is written. But if your graceful exit attracts them to Christ and they change, then you may have helped spare someone from eternal punishment.
