- Cut out the extras and start saving. Do come to me telling me you are having a hard time when you are going to the movies and eating out and going to clubs. You are responsible for your spending. You can budget to do these things, but not until you take care of ALL of your other responsibilities. The library lends movies for free!
- Get a second job - If you are having a hard time and you have one job, then get a second part-time job to help pay off debt. If you do not have any jobs, then get two part-time jobs. The focus with the second job is to PAY OFF debt! Read This.
- Stop Debt Spending - Get rid of your credit cards! If they are your weakness, then they will continue to be your downfall. Paying just the minimum on a credit card will ensure you have payments for the next thirty years. If you continue to use the card - YOU WILL NEVER PAY IT OFF, so CUT IT UP! Pay cash or wait until you have the cash to pay for something.
- Deal With Your Mortgage - Many of you do not have a house payment, but some of you do. If you see you are going to have hard time in the future, deal with your mortgage company now. Work with them to help you find a solution for payments. Maybe refinancing is a good idea. You are paying them big bucks just for this service. Use them before you lose them.
- Budget, Budget, Budget - and let me say Budget - If you are not operating on a budget, then shame of you. God has given us the ability to deal with our finances. He calls it stewardship. Here is a great resource to help you begin a budget: Crown.org
Hope this helps!
