If you haven't noticed yet, we are travelling through I Thessalonians together. This week, I have been a little under the weather and have found it hard to get anything done. Regardless of how good things are going, there are times when we feel like our feet are stuck in the mud. I try to move forward but it takes a lot of energy and effort.
Spiritual seasons can feel the same way. Our spiritual enemy will do all he can to keep the gospel from going forward. Just look at Paul in I Thessalonians 2:17-20. Paul eagerly wanted to get to Thessalonica but Satan stopped him. Satan will do all in his power to cease or discourage the furtherance of the gospel.
Christ will honor our efforts but we have to make an effort. I do not know about you but when I work hard at something, especially for God, only to see it fail or come to a stop, I get discouraged. Paul did not keep his hopes in his efforts, however. His hopes were in Christ. Paul knew what he had done and his every effort was to build others up in the gospel.
Don't let your hopes rest on your current efforts and do not be discouraged by your past mistakes and failures. Make the most of now by realizing your current efforts are drawing you closer to God and your past failures have worked to point you towards God's right path.
