When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom. - Proverbs 12:2
In the world of boxing, every boxer wants to believe they are the"king of the world". It happens with all the top contenders until the new guy comes along and knocks them out. A knockout is a hard fall.
Pride can stand in the way of our seeing a situation appropriately. It can cause us to be knocked out of many life opportunities - jobs, friendships, families, and so much more. Pride can knock us out.
Humility reminds us that we need God. We need God to help us stay focused on the important people and things in our lives. Pride can be deafening which causes us to focus on self and not others. God, however, quiets the deafening sounds and stills our hearts so we can focus.
Knowing we need God and are given opportunity here on earth to build relationships is the beginning of wisdom. Wisdom's foundation rests upon how we interact with both.
The Bible tells us we receive the Holy Spirit whose fruit is love, joy, peace, faithfulness, patience, gentleness, kindness, goodness and self-control. All nine aspects of the fruit of the Spirit are actions we can take towards others. Humility guides our ability to use this fruit...in wisdom.
Take a moment to reflect on your life today and see if pride may be squashing opportunities God has placed before you. Don't get knocked out in the first round. Ask God for help, and He will.
