Luke 2:6-7 NIV
"While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them."
There were not any rooms available. Whether it was an actual inn or a home that could house many guests is not very important. Here is a pregnant woman and no one would make room for her...
But I want to highligt something else. Verse 6 says she gave birth to her firstborn. Wait for it....that is right both were present. Why didn't Luke say "their" firstborn...
Luke knew that Joseph was not the father. The early church never questioned the origins of Christ. Luke, writing to someone outside the first believers, records a core belief - Mary was a virgin and God placed a child, His seed, within her. This is a powerful thought.
Jesus fulfills prophecy yet again. Pray that others will begin to see the significance of celebrating Christmas. We celebrate to honor God's work among us. Merry Christmas!
