John 8:32 NIV
"Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
Zig Ziglar is a great motivational speaker. He says we should never apologize for having high standards because people who wish to be a part of our lives will rise up to meet them. This can be true of business, of personal relationships, and of faith.
High standards for Christians are established through faith in Christ. Many who are not followers of Christ look at the Christian lifestyle in two ways: one looks at us to see if our lifestyle is worth living and the other looks at us to find weaknesses in our lifestyles in order to validate their own. The world is blinded by sin - enslaved by the lies of sin. Sin's power twists truth in order to keep people under its influence.
Don't get me wrong; sin is not a person that it has free will. Sin is a disease of the soul that separates people from God and can only be cleansed by His grace and His mercy. Satan, the Devil, Lucifer, or whatever you wish to call him, uses sin as a tool to weaken the will of people and hold them in sin's chains. Only through Christ can a person know the truth about sin's power. Only through Christ can a person escape the clutches of sin's devastating hold. Only through Christ can a person live by the standards set by God.
Those who choose to live sin-filled lives will do every thing to get a Christian to lower the standard for life set by God the Father. Why? They do not have any hope for escaping sin and do not want others to have that hope. Those chained by sin's lies are chained to their lost hope. Jesus came to break those chains so no one has to live without real hope.
Christians do not have to right nor the ability to lower the standards. We cannot reinterpret the Bible to suit our needs or the needs of others. We cannot ignore passages of scripture to help others feel better about themselves. Sin hurts and destroys - this is where the pain comes from and not the standards of God. Pain is the realization that we are separated from Him.
Listen to me closely...You do not have to succumb to the influence of sin's power. There is hope. You do not have to make excuses or let others be your excuse to live in sin. Christ can renew your life and your hope. Christ will strengthen your will with His in order to give you strength over sin. This life on earth doesn't have to be your only glimpse at heaven. Through faith in Christ and His sacrifice for you, you can walk away from your lifestyle and enter into hope and a guarantee to heaven. Don't let sin blind you anymore. Experience true life and let the truth set you free from sin's power and pain.
I chose to live by high standards not as a judgment upon others but to give others hope that Jesus Christ is willing and is waiting to help them live by the same standards. If Jesus can reach me, He can reach anyone. The way of the world of sin is to tear down hope. People trapped in the lies and the pain of sin lash out. This is why they constantly stab at any portrayal of moral standards such as those espoused by people like Phil Robertson of Duck Dynasty. Phil never claims to be a perfect person, just one saved by grace from a life that nearly destroyed him. He hopes to share the way out of sin and sometimes it means revealing the truth about sinful lifestyles.
The great thing about being a Christian is that we are allowed to make mistakes along the way but we do not have to live in our mistakes. We are not perfect but we can pursue the One who is. In this pursuit we experience His holiness, and its influence leads us on an amazing journey of truth and of life. Truth frees us to really be what we are created to be. The truth tells us that God is a forgiving and loving God who seeks our company. God lets us come to Him through Christ to ask for forgiveness when we cross the line of His standards. No judgment - just love.
Don't let sin hamper your life. Let the truth set you free. Don't live under the pain of sin anymore; there is a way out. Accept the sacrifice of Jesus as payment for your sins. Accept Christ's victory over death as a means to new hope. Ask God to forgive you for your sinful life and to help you live by the standards He set. Ask for His Holy Spirit to be your guide in life. Then thank Him, get into a Bible believing church, study God's Word (the Bible), pray (talk with Him) and learn how to be active in your faith.
Be free from sin's power and live life more abundantly.
