Leading Someone to Jesus - Part 5

1. What happens when we have an opportunity share our faith?

2. How do we lead someone into accepting Christ as their savior?

A popular outline for sharing faith in Christ is Romans road. This entails using four or five verses from the book of Romans (depending on how you approach the subject)..

Look up these verses and paraphrase them:
  • Romans 3:23
  • Romans 6:23
  • Romans 5:8
  • Romans 10:13
Many have said that all roads lead to Rome. Well, all of Romans leads to Christ.

1. First, you have to get the person lost with Romans 3:23. What this means is that most people see themselves as good. Many do not see themselves as sinners while others never see themselves as good enough.

Romans 3:23 allows the person to see that all are in the same condition. They are not alone. You and I both were in the same condition.

2. Once they realize that they are lost they need to see the cost of being lost in Romans 6:23. Since all are sinners, we all will pay the price for sin which is death. But this verse gives us hope because it tells us that there is an added gift. But this gift cannot be earned nor is it deserved. So we need to connect the person to how this gift became available.

3. Next, we show that Jesus came and died to pay the price for sin which is seen in Romans 5:8. Even though we do not deserve salvation from sin, God paid the price anyway. Christ took our penalty and paid the ransom price for our heads which was death. But that is no’t the stopping point.

4. We finally bring the person to Romans 10:13 which tells our prospect that any one who calls on God’'s name will be saved. There has to be an action on our part. God has already taken steps towards us. Now we have to take steps toward God.
  • The toughest thing in talking to someone about Jesus is closure. We must understand that a decision has to be made, but that decision does not have to be made right then
  • To help someone understand the urgency, they need to see themselves as receiving the gift of life from God. For example, taking a pen and saying you are going to give it to someone. Possession is 9/10’s of the law, I believe many people say. Well, until that person actually takes hold of the pen, it is still not his or her pen. Jesus is the gift and Romans 10: 9 clearly states:
Romans 10:9 - That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.  (NIV)
Read on past 10:13 and you come across this passage:
Romans 10:14-15
14 How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?
15 And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written, "How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!" (NIV)
  • What is being said here?
  • What does it say about the feet?
  • Whose feet are they?
Sound easy so far? Actually it is. The problem many of us have is fear.  That’s right, fear. We fear the unasked question, rejection, and the unanswerable question.
  • What questions do you believe may not be asked?
  • Why do we fear rejection? Who is really being rejected?
  • What question would you have a hard time answering?
People consistently have the same concerns. Many do not believe that we can be sure if we are saved but Romans 10:13 deals with this. Others believe that it is not anyone’s business to ask about their faith, but did you also believe that way when you were looking for God’s salvation for your life?
