The study covers The Gift of Work, The Gift of Friends, The Gift of Money, The Gift of Gratitude, The Gift of a Day, and The Gift of Dreams. I will be adding to it the Gift of Love.
This movie is great for teenagers and older. Most younger kids would get lost in the concepts.
Now, this is not review of the movie so you will not find any spoiler lines here. I just wanted to let everyone know about this very good film.
Our study this past Sunday (yesterday) dealt with the Gift of Work. I hope those who came to class understood the value of applying themselves in everything they do: work, school, home life.
The Bible tells us to work as though our boss or teachers were always in the room. I cannot say I have always followed this type of work ethic. I remember a class in high school (Mr. Pitts class for those who remember) in which he often left the room. We usually had paper ball fights during those absences. I think back now, and I wonder how much more I would have been able to accomplish if I had studied instead. What if I had been an example of working hard?
Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business and to work with your hands, just as we told you, so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be dependent on anybody. 1 Thessalonians 4:11-12 (NIV)
We are missing a work ethic in the church and in our society. I am all for having fun and good times, but I also know that hard work must precede those times. I don't want to be dependent on anyone, especially since I have the ability to work and make a difference.
I hope you re-read this verse often and test your motivations and intentions in work. You will be amazed at where a little more work will get you.
