Jason Marcum, My Best Friend Back When

All of us have had friends we had in high school who were like brothers. Jason was one of those. We traveled many miles together. When I first met him, he was the best drummer I had ever seen, and of course, I had not seen many. We were only in middle school, and he already knew what he wanted to do for the rest of his life.

We dressed differently, had different backgrounds, and listened to different music. Yet through God's grace we became friend's. We played Simon and Crockett as sixth graders (I, Rick Simon from TV's Simon and Simon and he, Sonny Crockett from Miami Vice - he had the coat). We marched in the band. We went to each others home or was it that I went to his house pretty much always.

I became friends with his little brother Ben and his oldest brother Steve (whom I am in very frequent contact with since he introduced me to my wife and he married one of her friends - another story though). Actually my first date with my wife was at a Jason Marcum concert in Atlanta.

As we left school, we maintained contact for numerous years, and then through something I regret, time and different interests began to separate us. I still consider him a friend though we have no contact anymore. I keep up with him through his brother and through his myspace page (www.jasonmarcum.com).

I wanted to introduce you to his music today. He was on a television show recently. Here he is...

Stay close to your friends.
