Strengthen Your Job Search Technique

Many people relegate their job search to a certain learned pattern. They look for people hiring and they submit application after application and wait for the results.

Is there a better way?

I came across an article that says most people fall into "7 Job Search Traps":
  1. Don't search for a job by just one method
  2. Search for a job as if it were a full time job
  3. Present an application that is grammatically correct and spelling error free - let someone check it for you
  4. Follow up at least once with the hiring manager
  5. Everything you do is not a problem - fix the one area keeping you from the job or from interviews. Read the article for a better understanding of this point. If you are not getting interviews, then your applications or your resumes and cover letter may need to be re-worked. If you are getting interviews, then you may need to focus on your interviewing skills
  6. Create people networks (not just online social networking) - people who know people may just help you get noticed by a potential employer
  7. Don't turn down a temp agency or a staffing firm - their networks are fairly large
Read the article for a deeper understanding of each point. I hope this helps you as you journey through the job market.

Even though the economy is tough, the jobs are out there. You just have to find it.
