Is there a better way?
I came across an article that says most people fall into "7 Job Search Traps":
- Don't search for a job by just one method
- Search for a job as if it were a full time job
- Present an application that is grammatically correct and spelling error free - let someone check it for you
- Follow up at least once with the hiring manager
- Everything you do is not a problem - fix the one area keeping you from the job or from interviews. Read the article for a better understanding of this point. If you are not getting interviews, then your applications or your resumes and cover letter may need to be re-worked. If you are getting interviews, then you may need to focus on your interviewing skills
- Create people networks (not just online social networking) - people who know people may just help you get noticed by a potential employer
- Don't turn down a temp agency or a staffing firm - their networks are fairly large
Even though the economy is tough, the jobs are out there. You just have to find it.
