Gracious words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones. - Proverbs 16:24 (NIV)
Honey seems to be one the most versatile foods of late. For example, eating local honey from your area can help with allergies. I know a man who was buying a special honey from New Zealand to apply on a skin condition. Of course, honey is always good mixed with peanut butter!
Maybe this is why Solomon choose honey to illustrate his point about words. Kind, encouraging, and uplifting words can change the way people feel. I introduced a quote from Rick Warren yesterday which says how we think can affect how we feel which in turn will determine how we act.
Your words are powerful, and used like honey can change entire situations. This is why hostage negotiators spend hours in training how to respond appropriately with words. Words matter.
We take words into us. Kind words rest on our soul and can help us feel alleviated from the pains we carry such as hurt feelings or crushed spirits.
Learn to weigh your words before you use them. You may not know how healing they just may be to someone else - even if they are not using a good choice in words themselves.
