Winter Doldrums

Isaiah 40:8 NIV

"The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever.”

We have had a cold fall in Georgia.  The leaves have fallen and the grass has browned.  Flowers have long since stopped blooming (except for those weird winter ones).  People will soon feel the winter gloom that looms after Christmas.  All the colorful decorations will have been taken down.  We will be left with browns and grays.  Soon after spring fever will strike.  People will be longing for the freshness and newness that the flowers and colors bring.  Depression is a state of mind during this time of year.

Unlike the changing seasons, God's Word lasts forever.  It is never dull and always vibrant.  It remains exciting and full of life even when the darkest of days emerge in our lives.  The truth of God's Word reveals an undeniable life.  This life cannot be taken from us.  Joy replaces the depressed feelings we have and releases us to live once again.

Christmas is a great time to remember that life is not fleeting.  It is a celebration that should be carried with us throughout our time on earth.  God's Word is the catalyst for celebration.  We need to treasure His Word in order to recognize His presence with us, even in those moments when everything seems gray and brown.  Start enduring and stop being tentative in life choices.  Study God's Word and find the path that leads to forever.
