Micah 6:8 NIV
"He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God."
Do you remember when you were younger and someone showed you how to do something? Maybe how to ride a bike or make brownies? Were you eager to hear from the wisdom of those teaching you?
Micah uses interesting literary devices to describe God's desire for us. One, God has shown us what is good. This is reminiscent of Adam and Eve. God showed them what to eat. He showed them all that He called good. Two, Micah calls his readers "mortal". Man strayed from the good and lost immortality in the flesh. Now, we all have an appointment with death. Straying from what God says is good has consequences.
Is what God requires from us insurmountable? Is it too large a hill to climb? The Atlanta Falcons have 2 wins and 6 loses so far. The coaches are going to ask the players to stand tough, keep fighting, and stay focused. To some of the fan base and to many commentators, the team faces the impossible in trying to reach the playoffs. One commentator said they might as well give up. Are the coaches expecting too much of the team?
Has life thrown so much at you that fighting does not seem worth it? Have you felt like you have had more than you can handle or that you cannot reach your full potential? Look at all that God requires:
1. To act justly - to act like you belong to God. To do right when right is not popular
2. To love mercy - to act with kindness and to show goodness
3. To walk humbly with your God - to be humble is to put God first in your life. Micah says walk with your God. God will be yours as long as you choose to walk (follow, obey) with Him.
There is not any pressure to win. There is not any pressure to be what you cannot. God believes in you so He won for you with His Son Jesus. God believes in you because He made you who you are. Only you can handle being who you are, and you do not have to do it alone. He asks to walk with you.
Who are you walking with? Does the wisdom from Micah encourage you? You can live fully in the good God is showing you. Don't let the the consequences of life dictate your future. Walk with God and let Him reveal a greater future. Enjoy your week.
