Psalm 19:14 NIV
'May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, Lord , my Rock and my Redeemer."
How are your words and thoughts guarded? Can you control what you say or think? Can you change the way you are thinking in order to fully understand all perspectives of what you are facing? Can you temper your words with love and with mercy?
When King David wrote this psalm, I can imagine him on a hilltop watching the sun cross the sky. He may have been reflecting on the order in the world - a world that glorified God by functioning as God designed it. Then David reflects upon his personal disorder. He prays for God to help keep him in order. His final thought is recorded in verse 14. He prays that God would examine his thoughts and spoken word.
David's motivation rested in purely pleasing God. How differently would we react to circumstances if every morning we committed our words and thoughts to God and being guided by His Spirit? What would happen if each evening we spent time with God reflecting on our thoughts and words of the day and asking God to help us to please Him better? How would your life change? How would the lives of those around you changed?
I know this is a lot of questions. Through questions we find answers. I cannot give the answers to these questions, however. You have to seek God and let Him answer them. Let God be your Rock - a foundation for standards and convictions. Let God be your Redeemer - the one who paves the way for your salvation from sin.
Spend time today reflecting on the order in the world and ask God if your life is orderly. Let Him answer, then work with God to correct mistakes or to remain constant in His love. Enjoy the process; it will change your life.
