Sand quickly loses water. It dries quickly. So if you take too long building the castle, the castles will quickly erode. The opposite problem arises when you add too much water. Too much water washes sand away. Sand is a very inconsistent medium.
Sandcastles are a little like faith. When faith dries out, it blows away. When it is over watered, it washes away. Let me explain. You will not grow your faith by hearing the words of Jesus alone; it would waste away from not being practiced. Nor can you just practice faith without hearing its foundational truths; it would be drowned out by all the untruths that surround faith practice.
We have to have a healthy balance of both hearing and practice. Without strong faith our hope becomes fragile. To avoid this we must learn to listen to the authority of the words of Jesus.
By learning how to read and study the Bible, we are teaching ourselves to see how the Bible is speaking to our lifestyles. In time we learn how to act and our actions will positively stimulate our emotions. The Bible is full of life principles. Following those principles puts us in the category of the wise.
Developing our faith is like building a home on a good foundation. It takes research, planning, passion, and commitment. Research helps us gain the wisdom necessary for growing in faith. Proper planning helps us understand what faith and obedience require of us. Passion helps us understand where true value exists – in God. Commitment gives us the fortitude to continue.
Listen to a semi-not-so-pro castle builder. Don’t let your faith dry out or be over watered. Balance out your walk in faith and enjoy life more. You will not regret it.
- What is the most difficult thing about being obedient to Jesus?
- Is your faith balanced, drying out, or over watered? If not balanced, how can you correct it?
- How much time do you devote to Bible study and prayer? What benefit do you get from it?
