This economy has become a thorn in the side of millions of people across the earth. Fears about uncertainty, job loss, and bills are captivating their hearts and rightly so.
I want to share a something from John Wesley that hopefully will encourage those who still have jobs and motivate those who are looking:
Wesley always said that there were three rules about the use of money which he gave to men in business, and by which he was sure that they would experience benefit.
1. Make as much money as you can.
a. Be industrious – work hard and be attentive to your business
b. Be diligent – persistence pays off
2. Save as much money as you can.
a. Be no spendthrift – don’t waste what God is blessing you with
b. Live frugally – be economical and use your resources wisely
c. Live prudently – your actions today will affect your tomorrow
3. Give away as much money as you can.
a. That is the divine destination of money – God’s design for our wealth is generosity, anything less is robbery
b. That makes it an everlasting blessing for yourselves and others – Our generosity touches more people than just us or those we are generous to
Acquaint yourself with the magnificent prayer of David in 1 Chronicles 29 . Receive it into your soul; it teaches us the blessedness and the glorification of God that spring from cheerful giving.
