Florida Wins and Oklahoma Doesn't and Utah...

College Football is Over

I think the BCS (Bowl Championship Series or something like that) stinks. Yes, two very good teams played last night, but it's eight days into January, and I had almost forgot that the game was on.

Florida proved what many had already believed, however - the SEC is very good. I say this because a SEC team has won the national championship three years straight.

But who really is number one? With one undefeated team that slapped Alabama around, I would question it. Utah is a good team and they did not get a second glance (okay so they are number two). Even as a SEC fan I believe Utah has been shafted. I guess you can't win them all.

On a more serious note, I have been reflecting on my hopes for the New Year. I have come to the conclusion that a long list is the worst thing to come up with. I have decided to concentrate on three areas of my life - physical, spiritual, and mental.

Physically, I plan on losing weight and continuing my exercise program. So far so good. I just have to eat a healthier diet.

Spiritually, I want to be more disciplined. I have started doing things in my home life that have helped me to focus better. What I have I done? I have decided not to procrastinate (as much). I feel totally different and I have seen my work increase. I am actually getting things done. Go figure.

Mentally, I am challenging myself to read more and spend less time wondering what next week's NCIS episode will contain. One of the things I have found is 20 courses given free online from Covenant Theological Seminary. I am half way through my first course.

So why just three areas for resolution? Because I do not have to carry around a list like Earl in the show "My Name is Earl". So my advice to you is to throw away the list (unless its from your boss) and choose three things to work on this year (spiritually, relationally, physically, mentally, or whatever). You will have less regrets and find yourself able to concentrate better and a little less agitated.

The author of Proverbs said that the proverbs are "for acquiring a disciplined and prudent (using good sense) life, doing what is right and just and fair..." How much less regrets could we all have if we added a little wisdom once in a while?

So pick an area to improve this year in your life. Remember, life is a constant and perpetual process. Use the Bible to stimulate your brain. Find someone to help. Love becuase you were created to love. Serve because you don't know any better.

It will change your life.
